ALBANY – Edith F. "Spunky" Beckerle, 85, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at the Resurrection Nursing Home.
Born in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Kathryn Supple Beckerle. She received her early education at Vincentian Institute and attended the College of St. Rose. Edith was employed as a case manager for the New York State Dept. of Disability Benefits from where she retired early to be the devoted caregiver of her parents. She was an active volunteer for Meals on Wheels, and as a communicant of St. James Church, was active with Visitation Ministry as a Eucharistic minister at hospitals and nursing homes. Edith enjoyed playing tennis and was a longtime fan of the New York Mets.
Edith is survived by her sisters, Alma Feeney (late Anthony) and Mary (George) Barber. She is the sister of the late Helen (Lawrence) Mackey. Edith is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday morning at 8:15 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie then to The Shrine Church of Our Lady of the Americas (formerly St. Patrick's Church), Albany at 9:00 where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Friday from 5 to 7 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Watervliet.
