DELMAR - Edith "June" (McGinnis) Nicol, 87, passed away on Thursday, June 26, 2014, with her loving family at her side.
Born on June 1, 1927, in McKees Rocks, PA, the daughter of the late Milo and Edith McGinnis. She was raised in Kinderhook, NY, where she played in the Van Buren Mansion with friends as a young girl. June attended High School in Hudson, NY and Adelphi College. At the age of 42, June returned to Adelphi College and earned her BS degree in Nursing.
June married William (Bill) Nicol on April 16, 1949. They were married 57 years before Bill passed away in 2006. Together they had 4 children: Tom, Linda (Pedicone), Joan (Scotti) and Jimmy.
June and Bill started their married life in Port Chester, NY, where June worked as a Nurse at United Hospital. In 1957, they moved to Yorktown Heights, NY, where June worked as a School Nurse Teacher and Public Health Nurse.
In 1986 June and Bill moved to Rancho Bernardo, California, where June continued work as a Public Health Nurse until she retired. In retirement, they relocated to The Villages, FL and then to Ocean Pines, MD. In 2005, June and Bill settled in the Capital District. June's most recent place of residence was The Delmar Place.
June is survived by her sister, Jean Lowry and brother-in-law, Frank Lowry, of Kerrville, TX. June is predeceased by her husband, Bill, son, Jimmy, brother, Robert McGinnis, and daughter-in-law, Vicki Nicol.
Surviving children are Thomas Nicol (Danbury. CT), Linda (and John) Pedicone (Orlando, FL) and Joan Scotti (Slingerlands). June was blessed with 7 grandchildren: Jenna and William Nicol, Robert and Alexandra Pedicone, and William, Michelina and Marissa Scotti. She is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews, along with her little dog, "Charlie".
June will be remembered for her keen wit and positive attitude. She was smart, humble and kind. Despite the loss of her young son and other challenges, June would always say "I choose to be happy". She rarely complained and managed to find humor in almost any situation.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the ASPCA at aspca.org/donate or the United Cerebral Palsy Foundation, at ucp.org, in memory of June. Services will be private.
