COLONIE- Edith Miller, 102, formerly of Colonie, passed away peacefully on Sunday March 18, 2012 at Fairview Commons in Great Barrington, MA.
She was born in Albany to the late James and Jeanette Miller. Edith was a housewife in Yonkers and returned to the Albany area in the 1940's. She worked at General Electric in Schenectady during the war. She volunteered as a Red Cross Gray Lady, helping out at area hospitals. Edith worked at Mayfair, Inc. in Albany for many years as an interior decorator and seamstress. She lived at Bishop Broderick Apartments where she was a volunteer and fund-raiser. She was recognized by receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Capital District Senior Issues Forum in October, 2003 at the age of 94. In 2008 she moved to Fairview Commons Nursing Home in Great Barrington, MA at the age of 98.
Her family includes son Frank A. Renak, Jr. (deceased), his wife, Geraldine (Rapp) Renak and their children Steven Renak, his wife Kim, and Linda Renak. Also, her son Irwin T. Renak and his wife Mary L. (Libardi) Renak and their children Valerie A. Sharper, her husband David, and Amy E. Renak. She also has several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Edith was a beloved friend to Alexander McLeod, Jr., who passed away in 1974. Other close friends include Walter and Norma Unverhau. Her extended family in the Albany area includes the Johnstons, the Fullers, the Millers, and the Olivers.
Funeral services will be Wednesday morning at 11:00 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie. A calling hour will precede the service from 10 to 11 am at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memory Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fairview Commons-Activities Dept., 151 Christian Hill Rd., Great Barrington, MA 01230-1108.
