SCHENECTADY – Edith Plourde, 93, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 30, 2012 at Ellis Hospital after a short illness. Born in Schenectady, she was the daughter of the late Adam and Ida (Piakowski) Lewandowski.
Edith married and moved to Colonie where she and her late husband Joseph built their house from the ground up, to their satisfaction and with great pride. She worked at the local department store previously known as Maxim (and now known as Kmart) as a clerk, and the Carl Company in Schenectady. Edith loved to be outside, gardening, and enjoyed her camp on Schroon Lake. On weekends Edith and Joseph could be found working around the house and enjoying all they had together. After his passing in November 1993, she truly missed her late husband "Bunny" very much and now is very happy to be back with him.
During her later years she was a resident of Kingsway-Parkland Gardens. She made many wonderful friends and enjoyed herself immensely. She was an avid fan of the NY Giants and loved to spend Sunday afternoons with the guys watching football.
Edith is survived by her children Peter (Janet) Plourde, Thomas (Regina) Plourde and Wayne (Mary) Plourde; grandchildren Kathryn Shoemaker, James (Michelle) Plourde and Harrison Plourde; great-grandchildren Alyssa Shoemaker, Grant Shoemaker, and Ceileigh Plourde.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 10:00 am at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memory Gardens, Colonie. In place of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lupus Foundation, 1533 Central Avenue, Albany, NY 12205 or the Salvation Army, 452 Clinton Avenue, Albany, NY 12206 in Edith's name.
