Albany – Edith Elda Steeves went to be with her Lord on Tuesday July 19, 2005. She was the daughter of the late Ethel Jantz (Steeves) Bauer and the late Harry H. Steeves. Edith was the stepdaughter of the late Karl G. Bauer. She was the sister of the late Gordon Robert Steeves and foster sister of the later Joan (John) Jerome.
Edith is survived by her adopted daughter, Patricia A. Crawford and two grandchildren, William Aaron Crawford and Kristin Ann Crawford. She is also survived by a stepbrother, Harold K. Bauer and her foster sister Donna (Glen) Sanders.
Edith received her education in the Albany School system and Albany Memorial Hospital School of Nursing where she graduated with honors. She obtained her Bachelor's of Science in Nursing at Russell Sage College. She was the longtime office nurse for the late Dr. Joseph Steinbock in Albany. Edith had worked as a staff nurse and supervisor at the Albany Visiting Nurses Association. She then served as Coordinator of the Hospital Based Home Care program at the VA Hospital where she received the Public Service Award and served on nationwide task force planning committees. She was presented with the National Certificate of Appreciation by the Veterans Administration Central Office in Washington DC for her work with hospital based home care. Following her retirement, Edith worked as an Administrative Coordinator at St. Peter's Hospice. She was longtime member of the former Hope Baptist Church and recently was attending the Madison Ave. Baptist Church.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Friday afternoon at 1:00 at NewComer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie (Rt-155-south of Central Ave). There will be no calling hours. Interment will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery.
