SCHENECTADY – Edmond F. Fontaine, 94, passed away on Sunday, January 10, 2010 at the Glendale Nursing Home in Glenville after a long illness. Edmond was predeceased by his wife, Wilhelmina (Manchester) Fontaine, his second wife, Elizabeth (Parker) Fontaine, and his brother, George Fontaine. Born in Schenectady, Edmond was the son of the late George and Mary Helena (Eddy) Fontaine. He retired after having worked at General Electric for many years. He lived most of his life in the Schenectady area; however, much of his family resided in Cohoes. Edmond was a volunteer for the South Schenectady Volunteer Fire Department for several years and was a communicant of St. Luke's Church in Schenectady.
Edmond enjoyed painting throughout his life, focusing mainly on landscape art. He also loved painting pumpkins each year for his grandchildren. He had a passion for trout fishing and enjoyed taking the grandchildren fishing. Golf became a favorite pastime for Edmond, later in life. He had a deep love for music, most especially for Dixieland tunes, and enjoyed spending time playing the drums, banjo and singing.
Edmond is survived by his three loving daughters, Merilyn Baker (Philip) of Galway, Sandra Putnam (Bob) of North Carolina and Terry Fontaine of Colorado. He was the loving grandfather of Donald Davis (Amy), Richard Davis (Debbie), Sandra Demars, Donna Foyle, James Foyle, Jennifer Emerich (Mike), Erin Lieber (Matthew) and Catherine Cortese (Brett), 12 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and uncle of Richard Fontaine. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
The family of Edmond wishes to thank the Glendale Nursing Home staff for the loving care that he received during his illness.
A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.). A calling hour will precede the service from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Interment Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Edmond's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of NENY, Pine West Plaza Building 4, Suite 405, Washington Ave. Ext., Albany, NY 12205.
