Edna Dodds Haggerty, 91, of Colonie passed away on September 3, 2023 at her home surrounded by her four daughters.
Edna was the daughter of the late James B. and Harriet Powles Dodds. She graduated from Albany High School in 1949. In pursuing her desire to become a nurse, she attended and graduated from the Mount Vernon Hospital School of Nursing, Mount Vernon, NY and received her New York State Registered Nurse License. She worked in several area hospitals and doctor's offices until starting her family and returned to nursing in 1972 as a school nurse for the South Colonie School District where she worked for 15 1/2 years before retiring in 1988.
Retirement opened up many new opportunities for Edna as she took up golfing, volunteered at the Shaker Historical Society and traveled throughout the United States and Europe with her nursing school friends. During her down time she enjoyed reading and researching the family's ancestry.
Edna was the wife of the late Malcolm A. Haggerty and the proud mother of four daughters, Karen L. (John) Miller of Brunswick, Nancy E. (Daniel) Lyons of Latham, Sally B. (Kenneth) O'Brien-Parow of Brunswick and Diane L. (Robert) Felitte of Latham.
She is also survived by her six grandchildren: Christopher (Kelsey) Miller, Rebecca (Stuart) Kaufman, Evan (Jenna) Felitte, Casey O'Brien, Aileen O'Brien, and Morgan Felitte. Edna was the beloved "GiGi" to her sweet great-granddaughters Millie Miller and Alessia Felitte.
She was predeceased by her brother James Powles, sister Katherine Powles Dreaney and her son-in-law James O'Brien.
The family would also like to acknowledge the wonderful friendship and companionship of Shivranie Persaud and Lois Kerr.
