NORTH GREENBUSH – Edward B. "Inky" Herbst, Jr., 60, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, July 13, 2010. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Edward B. and Irene Herbst, Sr. Ed lived in the Albany area for most of his life. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving his country during the Vietnam War. Ed worked for the Albany County Sheriff's Dept. before he became a truck driver for the U.S. Postal Service, from where he retired. He was a member of the Castleton Volunteer Fire Company and the North Bethlehem Volunteer Fire Dept. He enjoyed road trips on his motorcycle with his brothers, riding with his fiancé, Terry, and having coffee with his brother, George. Ed especially loved spending time with his granddaughters, Heather Becker, Kearstin Caplandies and Bethany Janke as well as the rest of his family. Ed is the best friend and fiancé of Terry Becker. He is the father of Edward Bedinotti and Holly Church. Ed is the brother of Elizabeth (Joseph) Vandenburgh, George (Helen) Herbst, Karl Herbst, Sr., Joseph (Wendy) Herbst, James (Beth) Herbst, Sr., Bill (Denise) Herbst and Leo (Lori) Herbst, Sr. Also surviving are four granddaughters, Heather, Kearstin, Bethany and Grace and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Ed was predeceased by his infant twin brother, John and his stepfather, Joseph Gruber.
Funeral services will be Monday at9:30 a.m. at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Calling hours will be Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont.
