COLONIE – Edward B. Shafer, 90, passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2009, under the care of hospice at St. Peter's Hospital, with his family by his side. He was born in Middleburg, NY and lived in Albany for most of his life. Ed worked for over 40 years at DePaula Chevrolet from where he retired. He was an avid fisherman and also enjoyed bowling. Ed is the beloved husband of the late Ethel Mae Stackman, Helen Hunter and Ruby Olsen. He is the devoted father of Priscilla (Joe) Martinez, Russell W. Shafer, James R. Shafer and the late Edward Shafer, Jr. and Diana L. Steenburg. He is the loving brother of Elizabeth Hayner and Ernest Filkins. Also surviving are six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Calling hours will be Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 at the funeral home. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park, Colonie. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Rd., Loudonville, NY 12211 in memory of Edward B. Shafer.
