Edward P. Doherty, 82, of Rotterdam passed away on July 29, 2020 after a short illness. Ed was the son of the late Bernard and Mary (Knight) Doherty. He was the devoted husband to the late Janet (Gale) Doherty for 61 years, until her passing on July 31, 2018.

Ed was born in Schenectady, and was a graduate of Draper High School, class of 1955. He served in the Army reserves for 6 years.

Ed worked for New York Telephone Company for 31 years. He was a proud member of the Communications Workers of America union. In retirement, Ed enjoyed working for Schenectady ARC's Ridge Transportation.

Ed was a firefighter and commissioner with Pine Grove Volunteer Fire Department for many years.
He enjoyed gardening and fishing on the Mohawk River along with his wife Janet.

In addition to his parents and beloved wife, he is predeceased by his great grandchildren Caroline Donnelly, Parker Donnelly, Kenna Gray, and brother Bernard Doherty.

Ed is survived by his daughter Cheryl Doherty (Gary Watts) of Chino Valley, AZ, sons Scott Doherty (Kathleen) of Canterbury, NH and Stephen Doherty (Mary) of Rotterdam, his sister Mary Jean Cook (Ralph) of Rotterdam, granddaughter Hope Donnelly (Dan) of Buckeye, AZ and grandson Michael Gray (Wendy Woods) of Cohoes, great grandchildren Jilian, Emma, Benjamin and Samantha, and sister in law Sarah Doherty.


Ed will be interred at the Schenectady Memorial Park cemetery. Services will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Schenectady ARC.
