COLONIE – Investigator Edward A. Frank, 45, of Colonie, passed away on Thursday August 4, 2005 after a valiant battle with cancer. A 1977 graduate of Colonie Central High School, he was a treasured asset to his community.
Ed was a decorated law enforcement officer for twenty five years. He began his career with the New York State Police and moved on to the Albany County Sheriff's Department before joining Colonie Police Department in 1986. Throughout his nineteen year career with the Police Department, Ed was recognized with numerous citations including the Distinguished Service Award, Meritorious Service Award and Special Services Award for his management and reorganization of the Special Services Team (SWAT) during his tenure as team leader. He was a tireless advocate for public awareness and education in effort to combat drunk driving fatalities.
Ed is survived by his parents; Edward R. and Shirley Grossi Frank of Altamont; his beloved wife, Kimberly McCaffrey Frank and his cherished daughters Kristin and Stephanie. He is the son in law of John and Nancy McCaffrey and brother in law to John (Carolyn), Michael (Martha) and Joseph (Kathy) McCaffrey. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services with full departmental honors will be Tuesday morning at 10:00 at St. Pius X Church, Loudonville where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 8 pm at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie (Rt.155-south of Central Ave). Interment will be in Memorys Garden. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West-6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445 in memory of Edward A. Frank.
