COLONIE - Edward G. Blessing, 88, passed away on Monday, October 27, 2014 at Albany Medical Center Hospital.
Edward was born on March 13, 1926 in Albany and was the son of the late George J. and Ida C. (Plowinski) Blessing and the husband of the late Gertrude (Watson) Blessing whom passed in 2006. He was a graduate of Mont Pleasant High School.
Edward was the owner and operator of Blessing's Tavern in Colonie for 52 years before retiring in 2002. After retiring, Ed spent several years working for Price Chopper. He enlisted in 1944 and became a member of The Naval Air Service during WWII, being discharged in 1946. He was a charter member of the Robert Weininger VFW Post 8692 in Colonie and the West Albany Rod & Gun Club and a member of the Colonie Elks Club and a communicant of St. Clare's Church. He enjoyed playing pinochle at the Village Senior Center, was an accomplished fisherman, bowler and golfer. He loved all sports, especially The New York Mets and Chicago Bears.
Edward is survived by his siblings, Elizabeth J. Melsert and Chester P. Blessing; his step children, Larry (Eileen) Cramer and Pam (Victor) Bruno; his longtime friend, Lorie Fish and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Friday at 10:00 a.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie then to St. Clare's Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens in Colonie. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at St. Clare's Church.
The family would like to thank the staff of Albany Medical Center's Emergency and CCU D-2. Their kind and gentle care for Edward and his family was sincerely appreciated.
