COLONIE – Edward Henry, Sr., 81, passed away on Monday, July 9, 2007, after a long illness at Albany Memorial Hospital.
Born in Albany, Ed was the son of the late Edward Martin Henry and Alice Rose Harvie Henry. He has been a Colonie resident for over 44 years. He served in the US Navy during WWII, seeing action in the Pacific while serving on the rocket gun boat the USS LCI 559. He attained the rank of Gunner's Mate Third Class.
Ed was educated in Albany and was employed by New York Department of State for 38 years retiring in 1987 as Senior Investigator. Ed enjoyed playing golf and was a long time thoroughbred horse player and enjoyed Saratoga Race Course and OTB. He enjoyed
his family activities, especially the holidays.
Ed is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Irene M. Bassler Henry; his children, Kathleen Ebbeson of Albany, Kenneth J. Henry (Daria) of Colonie, Edward J. Henry Jr. (Debbie) of Schenectady and Timothy Henry of Albany; his granddaughters, Amy Marien (John) of Rutland, MA and Melanie Willett (Dave) of Nashville, TN; three great-grandchildren, Claire and Luc Willett and Benjamin Marien; his sisters, Mary Coons of Albany, Carol Anziano of Rensselaer and Sally Johnson of Fort Lauderdale, FL and the late Doris Hagan and Jane Papa. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.) then to Blessed Sacrament Church, 609 Central Ave. at Colby St., Albany where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
