ALBANY – Edward J. Knapp, 82, of Albany, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 25, 2012 at the Community Hospice Inn, surrounded by his cherished daughters.
Ed was born in Albany to the late Edward A. and Dolores M. Knapp. He was a 1948 graduate of the Cathedral Academy. Ed served in the US Army, 2nd Armored Division as a young man. He was a rate clerk and credit manager with Delaware and Hudson Railroad in Albany for 35 years.
Ed loved to spend summers in Lake Luzerne with his family. He was a communicant of All Saints Catholic Church (formerly St. Margaret Mary) and was a member of the Colonie Elks. Ed truly basked in the accomplishments, joy and love of his four daughters and their families.
The family is most thankful to the staff at Hospice Inn for their kind and compassionate care.
Ed was predeceased in 2010 by his beloved wife of 56 years, Constance M. Knapp. He is the beloved father of Judith (Nicholas) Zelenewych, Kitti (Michael) Visker, Teresa (Ismael) Ramos and Amy (Tracy) Cicardi. He is the devoted grandfather of Kellie (Chris), Mike, Joe (Caitlin), Carlie, Beth, Mary, Brittany (Robert), Bo, Lucas and Adam. He is the brother of Mary (James) Murphy. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be Saturday morning at 8:15 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie then to All Saints Catholic Church at 9:00 where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery.
