Edward J. Nolan, 90, of Westmere, New York and Cocoa Beach, Florida, passed away on January 24, 2014, at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital.
Edward was born January 27, 1923, in Nashua, New Hampshire to Edward J. Nolan and Flora Jane MacDonnell.
After serving in the United States Army during World War II, Edward began a career in sales that led him to the beer business. After positions with Ballantine and Lowenbrau, Edward opened Westmere Beverage. Over the years, he owned, in whole or part, numerous beverage centers. He retired as owner, with his sons, of Thruway Beverages I, II and III.
In retirement, Ed enjoyed summers with his family at his home in Westmere and winters with his wife, Alice, at his home on Cocoa Beach.
Ed enjoyed dining in restaurants, reading, crosswords and trips to the Racino in Saratoga.
Ed is survived by his wife of 65 years, Alice (Vanasse) Nolan; his five children, Edward J. Nolan Jr. and his wife Susan, of North Greenbush; Alan Nolan and his wife Agnes, of Saratoga Springs; Patricia Hite and her husband Robert, of Menands; Michael Nolan and his wife Sherian, of Malta, and Anne-Marie Nash and her husband Michael, of Westmere. In addition, he is survived by eight grandchildren, Sarah (Tim), Alicia (John), Adam (Mandy), Robert, Michael, Alexandra, Jack and Parker and two great grand children.
In addition to his parents, Ed was predeceased by his granddaughter, Brigid Nolan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11:00 am at Christ The King Church, 20 Sumter Avenue in Westmere. Interment will follow the Mass in the Mausoleum at St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands. The calling hours will be private for the family.
