LATHAM – Edward J. Olander, 71, also known as David, passed away suddenly, after a brief illness on Monday, May 13, 2013. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late John J. and Ruth (Killian) Olander. David was an internationally known Modern Master artist. He is in the permanent collections of two museums, formerly with Wally Findlay Galleries. David was also a Commissioned Artist of the United States Coast Guard.
He is survived by his children, Kevin Bloom, Kelly Simmons and Kristina Fenn Olander and his granddaughter, Courtney Simmons. Also surviving are his siblings; his twin brother Joseph (Beverly) Olander, Ruth (Donald) Smith, Carole (John) Stevens, James (Virginia) Olander, Deborah (Joseph Ferguson) Olander and David (Caren Cagiano) Olander and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at NewComer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Calling hours will follow at the funeral home from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. At the request of the family memorial contributions would be appreciated to the Art School at the Educational Alliance, 197 East Broadway, New York, NY 10002 in memory of David Olander.
