COLONIE – Edward J. Wazny, 93, formerly of New York City, passed away on Thursday January 29, 2009 at St. Peters Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
He was born in New York and served in the US Army during WWII. Ed was a shipping representative in New York for many years before moving to Colonie twenty five years ago. Mr. Wazny had been very active with the Second Ave Senior Citizens where he enjoyed singing and line dancing. He will be remembered for his creativity, poetry and glow in the dark pictures. Ed was predeceased by his wife, his red haired angel Betty on 2001.
He is the beloved father of Veronica Murphy, Virginia (John) Verhoff, JoAnne Wazny and Barbara Wazny. He is the cherished grandfather of Lori A. (Michael) Bishop, Debbie M., Edward J (Kimberly), Jeremy E. and Jessica E. Verhoff. Great grandfather of Michael and Matthew Bishop and Edward J. Verhoff. He is the dear friend of the Forti family.
Funeral services will be Tuesday morning at 8:15 at Newcomer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave) then to St. Margaret Mary Church at 9:00 where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 8 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Saratoga National VA Cemetery.
