COLONIE – Edward Joseph White, of Colonie, in his 90th year, found peace on Saturday, May 30, 2009, surrounded by his loving family, at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital, following a brief illness. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Henry James and Lillian Rose (Martin) White, he was a lifelong Albany area resident. He resided in the Village of Colonie for 56 years. Eddie grew up in Albany and attended Vincentian Institute where he was an outstanding and well known athlete. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps, 1st Marine Division, Special Weapons Battalion during WWII in the South Pacific, making landings on Guadalcanal, New Britian, Cape Gloucester, Tulagi and Peleliu. Upon returning from the war, he was employed by the former Fort Orange Vending Company in Albany and later the A & P Tea Company Warehouse in Colonie and finally retired from the South Colonie School District in 1982.
Eddie is survived by the love of his life and wife of 67 years, Betty (Wikoff) White, his devoted daughter, Colleen (Frank) Koniszewski, his beloved granddaughter Donna (Kevin) Fahd and the lights of his life, his great-granddaughters, Alyssa Lillian and Megan Rose Fahd who will miss their great-papa very much. He is also survivied by his sister, Mary "Mae" Buher of Wilmington, NC and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Eddie is the step-grandfather of Frank III and Michael (Bernadette) Koniszewski, Lisa (Marek) Higersberger and Kasmira (Christopher) Shunk, along with twelve step-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Henry J. White, Jr. and his great-grandson, Kyle Joseph Fahd. The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to the caring staff of the Albany County Community Hospice and the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital for their kindness and gentle care during this extremely difficult and emotional time.
Funeral services will be Thursday morning at 9:00 at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.) then to St. Vincent de Paul Church, Albany at 10:00 a.m. where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memory's Garden, Colonie.
