COLONIE – Edward L. Smith, 83, died suddenly on Thursday, November 2, 2006 at St. Peter's Hospital.
Edward was born on March 15, 1923 in Albany and was the son of the late Leland R. and Margaret Mary Shea Smith. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the Army Air Corp 8th Air Force in England, attaining the rank of Corporal. Edward worked as an electrotyper for Williams Press in Menands for over 15 years, where he was secretary treasurer for Local Union No. 28. He then worked as a machinist for General Electric for 10 years. He last worked for the South Colonie School District as a bus driver.
Edward enjoyed fishing, gardening, traveling to Maine and was a Giants fan and an avid Yankees fan. He adored his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandson.
Edward is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Helen J. Wyzykowski Smith; his children, Thomas E. (Sandra) Smith of Saratoga Springs, Timothy E. (Nancy) Smith of Ballston Lake and Diane M. (Walter) Klaas of Latham; seven grandchildren; one great grandson and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Elizabeth Schaible.
Funeral services will be held at 8:45 a.m. Monday at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie (Rt. 155 - south of Central Ave.) then to St. Michael's Church 20 Page Ave., Cohoes where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
