Edward P. O'Donnell passed away peacefully on Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 21, 2016, with his loving family by his side.
Born in Troy, New York on November 11, 1924, he was the son of the late Edward John O'Donnell and Christina Helena Brown O'Donnell.
He was predeceased by his parents; his beloved wife of 63 years, Anna Mary Gisotti; and his sister, Shirley Mary O'Donnell.
Edward was a longtime resident of Guilderland and a communicant of Christ the King Church. He was a carpenter for most of his life, having worked for 24 years with the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America and later for 19 years with the NYS Office of General Services, retiring in 1991.
Edward leaves behind his children, Christina (Dr. Edward Merzig) of Guilderland, John (Deborah) of Niskayuna and Edward (Tracy) of White Plains. He is also survived by six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A graduate of Niskayuna High School, Edward also attended Albany Business College. He was a World War II Navy veteran, having served in the Pacific as an aviation mechanic on board Navy vessels.
Edward loved sailing and especially enjoyed working on sailboats. During the warm summer months, sailing and swimming at Saratoga Lake were his favorite activities. Edward was kind-hearted and witty and enjoyed family gatherings.
He also had a passion for auto mechanics and loved working with and collecting tools of all kinds.
As his wife's health deteriorated, Edward was a champion in caring for her and he exhibited tremendous patience and love for her.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, May 27, 2016 at 10:00 am at Christ the King Church, Guilderland. Calling hours will be on Thursday, May 26, 2016 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. The parish family of Christ the King will gather on Thursday at 4:30 pm at the funeral home for a service of prayer and remembrance, All are welcome.
Burial will be private.
