WATERVLIET – Edward P. Ruchel, Sr., 65, passed away on Monday, February 12, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital.
Edward was born on October 2, 1942 in Albany and was the son of the late Edward L. and Stasia H. Sobiecki Ruchel.
Edward worked as a steel worker for 30 years for Denman and Davis, Inc. (formerly Woodward Steel). He retired in 2003. He enjoyed fishing with his brothers and friend Pete, going for walks with his grandchildren, watching TV especially nature shows and John Wayne and spending time with his family.
Edward is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Joanne Ruchel; his children, Annmarie J. Ruchel, Melissa A. Olmetzer (Alan), Edward P. Ruchel Jr. (Danielle) and Joseph M. Ruchel, Sr. and his brothers, George L. Ruchel (Gail) and John S. Ruchel. He was Poppy to Alexa, Stasia, Andrew, David, Krista, Kaitlyn, Seretha and Joseph Jr. He is also survived by Aunt Josie, Aunt Betty, Aunt Annie, Uncle Buddy and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister-in-law, Karen Ruchel and his step-mother, Dottie Ruchel.
Funeral services will be held at 8:45 a.m. Friday at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.) then to Our Lady of Mercy Church where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
