ALBANY – Edward A. Van Valkenburgh, 56, passed away at his home on Friday, October 21, 2022 after a brief illness.
He was born in Schenectady on July 31, 1966 a son of the late Albert H. and Judith (Gaynor) Van Valkenburgh. He graduated from Niskayuna High School and attended SUNY Oswego.
Ed was employed for many years with the Roland J Down Co. in Scotia and in later years, was employed with Stewart Shops. Inc until he retired due to illness in March of 2022.
He enjoyed golfing, sports, television and was also a trivia buff. He followed the NY Knicks and the Washington Redskins. Ed and his son, Alex were both avid fans of the New York Mets. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his son and stepdaughters and keeping up with their lives.
Ed was predeceased by his birth mother, Judith; his father, Albert and his wife, Patricia Van Valkenburgh.
He is survived by his son, Alex Van Valkenburgh; three stepdaughters, Alysha (Greg) Bredenko, Brittany Mason and Courtney (Mel) Ellis; a step grandchild, Joshua Mason; his brother, Michael (Claire) Van Valkenburgh; his niece, Maggie and nephew Liam.
An hour of visitation will be held from 10 am to 11 am with a celebration of life to immediately follow at 11 am on Monday, October 31, 2022 at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Interment will follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Peter Young Housing, Industries and Treatment, 428 Duane Avenue, Schenectady, NY 12304.
