Edward Wrubleski

April 7, 1922 — June 11, 2024

Cheers to a life well lived!

Born in Hoosick Falls, NY, April 7, 1922 Ed passed peacefully on June 11, 2024, at the age 102 at Kingsway Arms Nursing Center

Son of the late Karol and Zofia Wrubleski. Brother of the late Stephen, Philip and John Wrubleski. Husband of the late Mary Jane Stelmack Wrubleski to whom he was married for 48 years prior to her passing in 1995.

He attended schools in Hoosick Falls.

Ed served in the Civilian Conservation Corps prior to enlisting in the US Navy in April of 1942. He served during WWII in Kodiak Alaska and Northern Africa. His rank was Coxswain. He had the honor of being recognized as one of Schenectady’s Hometown Heroes.

He is survived by his godchild Judy (Peter) Nocera and was “Uncle Eddie” to several loving nieces and nephews who were just like children to him. He enjoyed their company whenever the opportunity arose.

Edward lost his mother at the young age of 5 and was brought up by his brothers. He moved to Schenectady and resided on Crane Street until he enlisted in the Navy in 1942.

Mary and Ed loved to travel to Las Vegas and Hawaii and took several cruises. They were also avid Polka dancers and followed the local dancing circuit for many years building many life long friendships along the way.

Ed had a zest for life that continued until the day he passed. Getting pleasure and happiness from the simplest things. He loved to play the numbers and, at the urging of his nephew Bob, took up betting the horses which gave him something to study during his days at Kingsway, often encouraging his care givers to pick a horse for him. He loved to play the Mega millions lottery always hoping to “hit the big one” so he could give it away to friends and family.

Ed was a special person who always took care of his family and friends. He just loved giving things to everyone. It really made him happy. He loved to look at and shop in the many hundreds of catalogues he received in the mail. He particularly loved buying clothes for himself so much so that he could have outfitted a men’s clothing store. He also loved a good party. In fact, he celebrated his 90th, 95th, 100th, 101st and 102nd birthday surrounded by family and friends in various restaurants in Schenectady. Again, it was the simple things that made him the happiest like going out to breakfast and dinner anytime someone could take him. Drinking a milk shake or eating a pastry. He sure did have a sweet tooth!

During his time in Glenville he came to be very good friends with the staff at Hannaford on Rt. 50. To this day, many of them remain very close friends of his. Taking him to dinner, visiting him at Kingsway and always presenting him with a shopping bag full of his favorite things.

Ed’s family would like to thank the staff at Kingsway Nursing Center for their professional care and the kindness and friendship shown him during the two years he resided there. It was a blessing to his family to know he was well cared for.

Ed's Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, June 19th at 11am at St. Adalbert Church, 550 Lansing St., Schenectady. Interment to follow at St. Adalbert Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that gifts to the Church of St. Adalbert, 550 Lansing St., Schenectady, NY 12303 be considered. And, also, in Ed’s honor, please enjoy all of the simple things in your life!
