ALBANY – Edwin F. "Tod" Chartier, went to heaven to be with the Lord on Tuesday October 8, 2013. He celebrated his 100th birthday on September 4, 2013. Ed was born in Albany and was the son of the late Frederick and Anna (Wehner) Chartier. He was predeceased by his wife, Jane (Barry) Chartier and his sister, Dorothy (Robert) Griffith.
Ed is the beloved father of Cindy (Bud) Esterby. He is the cherished grandfather of Jared (Kristin) Esterby and April (Rick) Fanto. He is the loving uncle of Wayne (Marcia) and Todd (Sharon) Griffith.
Ed retired from Sterling Winthrop Laboratories after 42 years as the Supervisor Chemist of the Quality Control Laboratory. Ed was a deeply religious man and a life-long member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Albany. As a young man, he enjoyed downhill skiing and horseback riding. He found great pleasure in spending time with his family and time spent on Cossayuna Lake.
Our family would like to thank Jim Griner, Marylyn Praga, Margaret Schroll, Cathy Boudreau, Jim Sano, Dan O'Brien and especially Pastor David Gruenwald for all their support and caring of Dad and our family. We would also like to thank Van Rensselaer Manor for the excellent care Dad received this last month.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:00 am at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 10 Western Ave., Albany. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 pm at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie. Interment will be in Memory Gardens. At the request of family and in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cossayuna Lake Improvement Association (CLIA), PO Box 81, Cossayuna, NY 12823 in memory of Edwin F. Chartier.
