Edwin Wood, 93 of New Salem went to be with the Lord the afternoon of November 7, 2021.
He and his wife Lois were married in the New Salem Reformed Church in a double ceremony with her sister Lillian and husband John Duffus (deceased). They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this past June.
A loving father of son's Jonathan Linden (Kathy), Edwin Timothy (Terry) and Loren David (JoAnn).
An adoring grandfather of 12 and great-grandfather of 4.
He is survived by sisters-in-law Lillian Duffus and Diane Stedman, his brother-in-law Lester Sharp and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Francis Selip.
Born in Asheville, NC, the family moved to Glenmont where he grew up. He joined the US Navy and served in the Pacific at the end of WWII on a Heavy Cruiser. Upon return to the Albany area he began an apprenticeship at the Delmar Box Company as a Millman building wooden shipping containers and pallets by hand. Over the many decades in the business, he moved with the company to Railroad Avenue where he became shop foreman and then on to Troy. During his semi-retirement years he continued to assist family, friends and neighbors on their various construction projects in the surrounding area.
He enjoyed working around the house in his vegetable garden and mowing the family's lawns. He was always ready and willing to lend a hand to any and all who needed it. He was a member of the Hill Town Senior Citizens and enjoyed numerous trips around the North East.
Edwin liked to socialize and enjoyed talking with everyone he met along the way, starting up conversations with complete strangers. All were touched by his warm and welcoming spirit.
One of his favorite closing comments was "Every day is what you make of it - with the help of the good Lord" as he pointed up.
The family would like to thank the dedicated team at Landmark, The Eddy and Albany County Hospice for their kind and compassionate care these past years.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Edwin Wood to the Albany County Community Hospice at 445 New Karner Road, Albany NY 12205 or the Altamont Reformed Church at 129 Lincoln Ave. PO Box 671, 12009.
