COLONIE – Edythe Elsie Haas Knizek, 89, of Colonie, passed away peacefully on Saturday June 16, 2012 at her residence.
She was born and raised in Flushing, NY and was the only child of Charles H. and Elsie Mach Haas. Edythe was a 1941 graduate of Bayside High School and worked for Sinclair Oil in New York City during the war. She married Frank Knizek on March 29, 1947 and lived in Colonie for most of her married life. Edythe was a lifetime member of the Colonie Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and was an officer and member of their bowling leagues. Edythe worked as a secretary in South Colonie School District for 21 years, retiring in 1985. She was a devoted caregiver to her mother, father, husband, children and grandchildren. Edythe will be remembered for her unwavering kindness and her genuine giving nature. She enjoyed music, playing the organ and spending treasured time with her family at their camp at Friends Lake.
She was predeceased in 2006 by her beloved husband of almost 60 years, Frank Knizek. Edythe is the loving mother of Robert (Mary DeGroff) Knizek, Frank Richard (AnneMarie) Knizek and Karen (James) Smith. She is the cherished grandmother of Erick, Susan, Brandon, Michael, Timothy, Evan, Bryan, Alex, Audrey and great grandmother of Annika.
Edythe's family deeply appreciates the love and care from Dr. Roberta Miller and home care angels Rita and Jackie.
Funeral services will be Friday at 1:00 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie. Calling hours will be Friday from 11 am to 1 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memory Gardens.
