GUILDERLAND – Eleanor Anne Woodbury Sokil, 84, passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2013 at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center after a long illness. Born in Woodside, Long Island, she was the daughter of the late Gordon and Anne Dwyer Woodbury.
Ellie was a resident of Guilderland for 48 years. She worked for NYS Audit and Control, the Continental Bakery, and NYS Thruway Authority. Ellie was a communicant of St. Madeleine Sophie in Guilderland, and a member of the Home Bureau. Her hobbies included crafts, bowling, and crosswords. Ellie enjoyed reading, music, playing cards (especially pinnacle) and painting.
Ellie was predeceased by her husband of 24 years, Myron Sokil.
She will be missed by her children Debra (Steven) Ennis of Glenmont, Linda (Dan) Hill of Glastonbury, Conn., Michael (Nancy) Sokil of Guilderland, and Daniel (Dawn Geil) Sokil of East Greenbush; grandchildren Brenden and Morgan Ennis, Jennifer (Pawlowski) and Chris Hill, and John Sokil; great-grandsons Michael Pawlowski and Chris (CJ) Hill, and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to "THANK" the staff of Our Lady of Mercy Life Center (OLMLC), especially the Lourdes Unit, for the exceptional care Ellie received. All who knew and cared for Ellie, (aka: mom/grandma) know how important they/you were in the lives of Ellie and her family.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at 6:00 pm at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Calling hours will precede the service from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. At the request of the family, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Mercy Life Center, 2 Mercycare Lane, Guilderland, NY 12084 in Ellie's name.
