Eleanor Jeanne Alger-Monlea

October 24, 1941 — April 5, 2021

Eleanor Alger-Monlea, aged 79, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on April 5, 2021, after battling an illness for a couple of years. Eleanor was Born in Schenectady, and was one of twin daughters of Sophie T. and Abram Anthony. She is survived by her beloved husband, Ramon Monlea, Her dearest loving twin Sister, Ella A. Krajewski ( Lawrence Krajewski); She was loving mother to John R. Alger ( Heidi Jo Smith-Alger), Veronica J. Alger-Mattas ( Gerald S. Mattas) and Priscilla T. Norkus. She was cherished Grandmother to Evan Alger, Nathan Alger, Laura A. Mattas, Alexander Norkus and Connor Norkus, along with Aunts and cousins. She is also survived by several stepchildren Ramon (Christine) Monlea, Christopher (Bridgett) Monlea, Melinda(Dwayne) Rockenstyre and Michelle Monlea, along with grandchildren , Ramon Jr, Austin, Zachary, Dwayne Jr. and Jules.
Eleanor Graduated from Linton High School '59, Graduated from SUNY-Schenectady (A.S), Empire State College (B.S. and Masters in Library Sciences, MLS). She enjoyed working for the State Library and Several County Library's throughout her career as a Librarian. Once retired, she thoroughly enjoyed traveling, participating in several Associations, enjoyed her life with her husband family, friends and neighbors. Eleanor found special pleasure in cruising to most of the Caribbean islands and Alaska. Touring most European countries and the near East. She and her husband took several cross country trips in the US traveling East to West then back, taking in in most of the National parks. She enjoyed RV camping and tenting on many trips to Maine and Cape Cod as favorites. Over the last 6 years, She and her husband were snow birds and spent the Winters in beautiful sunny Florida right across from the spectacular ocean.
Eleanor was extremely active in various community organizations. She won the Title of Miss Schenectady AmVet in the 1959 contest and was crowned queen. Eleanor was an Active member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Schenectada Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star of the State of New York, La Societe des Filles du roi et soldats du Carignan, Inc., Association of Phillippe du Trieux Descendents, The National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century- Mohawk Valley Chapter, The Dutch Settlers of Albany Chapter, Genealogy Society-Flagler County, Archives Partnership Trust Senior/Student/Educator and Schenectady County Historical Society.
Eleanor will be remembered for her great love of her family, enjoying Proctor's theater, the love of traveling, her drawing and paintings, love of gardening and literature. Eleanor loved life, being involved with her family, grand-children and grand puppies. She always was there to lend a helping hand and make the lives around her better. She was always ready to be involved with her family no matter what the activity: hiking, biking, white water rafting, walking, sailing, horseback riding, skiing or sitting around a campfire on the beach playing UNO. For all that knew Eleanor, she was a bright light in their lives.

The graveside service will be private for Eleanor's family and will be held at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Schenectady, NY. on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at 9:00 am.
