Glenville- Eleanor M. "Ellie" Amirault, 83, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on October 21, 2017 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, NY. Born on November, 24, 1933 in Boston, MA, Ellie was the daughter of the late Joseph and Levina C. (Comeau) Dougan. She graduated from Dorchester High School and Boston City School of Nursing. She was married to Joseph E. Amirault on August 19, 1956 at St. Williams Church in Dorchester, MA. She worked as a registered nurse at Boston City Hospital. Together with their family, they moved to Burnt Hills, NY in 1968. She held various private-duty nursing positions through the years. Ellie made many good friends with her active involvement in the Schenectady Home Bureau Association. She loved to knit, especially ski hats and Christmas stockings. Ellie was an active member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Ballston Lake. She and Joe were marriage sponsors for many years. In their retirement, they liked to spend the winter in New Port Richey, FL.
Ellie was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many.
Ellie was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Joseph E. Amirault. She is survived by her six children: Joseph Amirault Jr. (Mary) of Glenmont, Edward Amirault (Anne Flack) of Ferrisburg, VT, James Amirault (Kim) of Upper Jay, Richard Amirault of Glenville, Thomas Amirault (Barbara) of Glenville and Michelle Amirault-Smith (John) of Delmar; her eight grandchildren: Timothy, Alex, Nick, August, Liza, Ray, Paul and Phoebe Amirault; her sister, Dorothy James of Egypt, MA and her brother, Frank Dougan (Joanne) of Cape Cod, MA and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4 pm to 7 pm on Thursday, November 2 at Our Lady of Grace Church, 73 Midline Road, Ballston Lake, NY 12019. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Friday, November 3 at the church. Inurnment will follow at Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ellie's name to Our Lady of Grace Church, 73 Midline Road, Ballston Lake, NY 12019.
