Painted Post - Eleanor (Pienkoski) Anderson, 92, formerly of Painted Post, NY died March 30, 2017 at Schuyler Ridge Nursing home in Clifton Park, NY.
Eleanor Horrell was born on October 8, 1924, in Belle Vernon, PA, to James and Charlotte (Forsythe) Horrell, the oldest of four, including William, Roy, and James, all predeceased. She graduated from North Belle Vernon High School in 1942, and after taking classes at the Morris School of Business in Pittsburgh, she was employed as a secretary for Western Penn Electric. In 1955, she met Arthur Pienkoski, an engineer at the Chaleroi plant of Corning Glass Works, and they married in 1957, one week after Art was promoted to a position in Corning, NY, where she also worked as a secretary.
Corning was where Eleanor had her two sons, Bruce and Brian (now Penny Sterling), and became active at Grace United Methodist Church as well as the Order of the Eastern Star, becoming Matron of the Crystal City Chapter in 1965. But her family was always her main focus. She was a Den Mother when her boys were in scouting, and a tireless transporter, booster, or audience member of whatever team, band, chorus or play they were in.
In 1974, the Pienkoskis hosted an AFS exchange student from Uruguay, and Eleanor's family increased by one. Gabriel Galli became another son, and they remained close.
Her husband Arthur died suddenly in 1977, and in 1981 she married Leonard Anderson, eventually migrating to Jensen Beach, FL, where they lived until Len's death in 2009. Since then, she has lived in the Albany NY area until her death.
Eleanor is survived by her son, Bruce (Catherine) Pienkoski of Clifton Park; daughter, Penny Sterling of Rochester; daughter-in-law, Julia Woehrlen of Rochester; stepchildren, Gail Whitehead of Luttrell, TN and Gary Anderson of Weaverville, NC; grandchildren, Bradley Woehrlen, Denise Helms, Missy and David Whitehead, Laura Mead, Andrew DePotter, Sarah Vadney, Aimee, Fred and Zoe Pienkoski (listed chronologically), and great-grandchildren, Eli and Kylie Helms, Elias von Rathonyi, and Emma Mead.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, April 10th, at Grace United Methodist Church, 191 Bridge Street in Corning. Interment will follow at 1:30 pm at Chapel Knoll Cemetery, 508 Victory Highway in Painted Post.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to a cancer or alzheimer's organizations.
