Eleanor Brunetto

ALBANY - Eleanor Brunetto, 96, passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 in Myrtle Beach, SC She was born in Johnstown, NY and attended Johnstown High School. She graduated from Zion Bible Institute, Barrington, RI in 1947. She also graduated from: Ellis Hospital Training School for Nurses, Schenectady, NY in 1953 and Columbia University, Teachers College, in New York, New York with a: B.S. degree majoring in Science Education in 1956 and a M.A. degree in Teaching & Curriculum in Schools of Higher Education in 1958. Further graduate work included courses in Supervision, Administration, Mental Health, School Nursing, and Public School Administration. She also attended the Graduate School of Public Health at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN. She received the M.P.H. degree in 1961.

Miss Brunetto began serving as a Public Health Nurse for Westchester County Health Department of White Plains, NY in the fall of 1955, became Supervising Public Health Nurse in June of 1958 and the Executive Director of Rye Visiting Nurse Association until May of 1965.

In May of 1965, she accepted an offer to work with the United States Agency For International Development, State Department in Washington, D.C. (Bureau of the Far East-Vietnam). Upon her return to the United States in 1967 she accepted a position as the Associate Director of Public Health Nursing, Westchester County Department of Health, White Plains, NY.

In October 1969, she transferred to a new position with the Albany Medical College of Union University where she served as the Director of Nursing for Albany Medical College-Community Medical Care Program as well as Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Preventative Community Medicine. She also taught at Russell Sage College, Troy, NY as an Associate Professor.

She co-authored the article "The Primary Care Nurse-The Generalist in a Structured Health Care Team" which was published in the Public Health Journal of June, 1972. It was also presented by Miss Brunetto before the APHA, 99th Annual Meeting, Minneapolis, MN, and republished in Contemporary Community Nursing in 1975.

Miss Brunetto has been a member of Kappa Delta Pi-International Honor Society for Education since 1956. She was ordained by Zion Bible Institute-Zion Gospel Temple in September of 1968. Her pastoral experience includes: Interim Pastor of the Philadelphia Faith Tabernacle in Albany, NY from November 1967 until September, 1972.

In September of 1972, Miss Brunetto returned to Zion Bible Institute as a faculty member & Resident Nurse. She served as Vice Principal from 1981 to 1983. She was appointed Dean in 1985 & in 1991 retired from this position. She continued to serve on the Board of Trustees & the Advisory Board of the Academic Committee as well as function as an adjunct professor until her permanent retirement in 1997. She has resided in Myrtle Beach, SC since 2007. She was a beloved aunt, teacher, mentor, pastor, and friend.

Calling hours will be held at New Comer Funerals & Cremations, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie on Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens in Colonie.
