Eleanor Place

TROY-Eleanor J. Place, 84 passed away at her residence on Monday, May 26, 2014 following a brief illness. She was born in Albany, NY the daughter of the late George and Sophie Houting. Eleanor grew up in Albany and married at the age of 19 to the late Earl Place. She worked as a Data Entry Clerk for the NYS Comptroller's Office and also as a homemaker raising her six children. Eleanor enjoyed vacationing with her sister and brother in law Evelyn and Roy in Florida every year. She also loved baking for her family and baked all the birthday cakes. Eleanor was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Watervliet until her health declined. She was also a member of the Women's Auxiliary North Albany Post #1610. Eleanor was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She will be sadly missed.
Eleanor is survived by her children Kenneth Place, Richard (Betty) Place, Eileen (William) DesForge, and Carol (William) Parker; 17 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; her daughter in law Irene Place and her cat Bridget.
In addition to her parents and husband, Eleanor was predeceased by her son James Place, Sr., her daughter Susan Caiozzo and by her daughter in law Kateri "Tara" Place.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 5 PM on Sunday, June 1, 2014 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, June 2, 2014 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1336 First Ave. Watervliet.
Interment will be at Albany Rural Cemetery, Menands, NY.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Leukemia Foundation in memory of Eleanor.
