DELMAR -- Eleanor M. Swett, 90, of Delmar, NY, passed away on June 25, 2011 at St. Peter's Hospital, after a year and a half in home hospice care. Born on November 22, 1920 in Verona, ND, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Andrea (Jenson) Aahl, Norwegian homesteaders.
Eleanor attended Valley City College in ND, and worked summers at a remote fishing camp in Glacier National Park. After college, she taught school on a Montana Indian Reservation, and in a one room school house. During WW II, she worked at Boeing in Seattle. She later taught pre-school in Golden Colorado, and substitute taught in the local elementary schools in Delmar, NY.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Hollis A. (Todd) Swett. She is survived by her two children, Susan Swett (J. Bradford Hunter) from Fairfax, VA, and Eric Swett from Delmar, NY; three wonderful granddaughters, Sara (Swett) Prudhomme (Chris) from Colorado Springs, CO, Leah Swett from Denver, CO, and Anna Hunter from Fairfax, VA; and three great-granddaughters, Hannah, Elizabeth, and Sophia Prudhomme . She is also survived by her sister Lois Cameron Gilleo of Walnut Creek, CA.
Eleanor will be remembered for her energetic spirit, her beautiful needle work, her wonderful cooking (especially her pies), and her love of a good game of bridge. Eleanor will be dearly missed by her friends and family.
Eleanor was a member of Delmar Presbyterian Church.
A memorial service will be held at Delmar Presbyterian Church, 585 Delaware Ave., Delmar, NY 12054, August 10, 2011 at 4 PM.
