COLONIE – Eleanore (Ellie) M. Rettinger, 96, passed away on Thursday July 4, 2013 at the Van Rensselaer Manor in Troy.
She was the daughter of the late William J. Burke and Mary P. Skelly Burke. Ellie resided in Albany all of her life and attended St. Mary's Elementary School and St. Joseph's Academy. She was married to the late Henry P. Rettinger for 66 years until his passing in 2008. Ellie was a member of the North Greenbush American Legion Post 1489 Women's Auxiliary. Ellie and Pete loved to vacation in Maine and Cape Cod. They also loved getting in the car and just taking a drive on Saturdays. She loved to play bingo with her friends while residing in Colonie Terrace Apartments before moving in with her daughter and son in law. She was a communicant of St. Clare's Church.
Ellie is the Loving Mother of William J. (Elizabeth) Rettinger of Rensselaer, Ellen (Richard) Wilcox of Albany and Maryalice (Charles) Hannan of Troy. She is the cherished grandmother of Daniel (Sharon) Marshall, Ann Louise Rettinger, Richard Rettinger, Terry (Sabrina) Rettinger, John (Sherry) Rettinger, Michele Wilcox, Amy (Michael) DiMonda, Mary Beth (Aole) Wright, Richard Jr., Peter, Katie Wilcox and Katelynn and Aaliyah Hannan. She is the great grandmother of Matthew and Logan Marshall, Ashley Aiden, Matthew, Tye, Riley, Chase, Kyle, Nathan and Haley Rettinger, Michael Jr. and Nicholas DiMonda, Danielle Christopher, Ella and Brian Wright, Kaylee and Peter Wilcox Jr. She is the cousin of Joanne Casserly and Elizabeth (Joseph) Haller. Many nieces and nephews also survive. Ellie was predeceased by her sisters, Frances (Albert) DeJoseph, Rosemary (Gene) Leveroni and Therese (John) Coyle.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Wing A3 at Van Rensselaer Manor, especially her aide Anna for the excellent care shown to our Mother.
Funeral services will be Monday morning at 8:30 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie then to St. Clare's Church at 9:00 where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Sunday afternoon from 3 to 5 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. Memorial contributions may be made to the Activities Department, Van Rensselaer Manor, 85 Bloomingrove Drive, Troy, NY 12180 in memory of Ellie Rettinger.
