Elinor Gruss

Elinor Mary Gruss , 80, born June 17, 1935 in Granville, NY to Mary and Andrew Sabol passed away peacefully at St. Peters Hospice Inn on Wednesday, October 14, 2015.

She left her loving family to join her husband of 57 years, Heinrich Gruss who passed away on May 31, 2015.

Elinor worked as a legal secretary and as a nurse at the VA before she met and married Heinrich in 1957. In 1959 they started H.W. Gruss Machine Shop in Selkirk. Elinor worked in the shop and did all the bookkeeping while raising five children. In later years she worked as a private duty nurse and nanny.

She was a girl scout leader and enjoyed gardening, fishing, bird watching, traveling and having large family gatherings.

In addition to her husband Heinrich she is also predeceased by her sister, Agnes (Dick) Meyers, her brother Lawrence Sabol and her great granddaughter Trinity Martin.

Elinor is survived by her beloved children, Mary Gruss, Trudy (Johnny) Martin, William (Sue) Gruss, Timothy (Noreen) Gruss and Daniel (Kelly) Gruss. Her adored grandchildren, Brian (Crystal) Filkins, Michael Filkins, Robyn Filkins, Destiny Cinque, Angela Ippolito, Jacob Martin, Nicholas (Rachael) Martin, Christopher (Mary) Stehr, Caitlin Stehr, Amanda Gruss, Sara Gruss, Gregory Gruss, Zackary Gruss, Jessica Gruss, Molly Gruss and her precious great grandchildren, Brynn and Skyla Filkins, Cody, Gavin and Carter Martin.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, October 19, 2015 at 7:00 pm at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie. Calling hours will precede the service from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Community Hospice 295 Valley View Blvd. Rensselaer, NY 12144 in Elinor's memory.
