Elisabeth P. Farnell
On July 17, 2010 Elisabeth "Betty" Farnell passed from this life peacefully at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center in Guilderland, New York.
Betty was born on August 22, 1916 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Richard Storrs and Mary Tomlinson Pattee. In 1928 Betty's mom boldly moved her young daughter and son to Los Angeles, California where she sold baked goods on consignment. It was not long before the family was able to open up The Lighted Tree, a tea room that remained in business for fourteen years. After its closing and after receiving secretarial training, Betty went to work for Lockheed Martin. It was there she meet Jack William Farnell and became his wife on July 2, 1947. Shortly after adopting two children, Florence "Florie" Elisabeth and Victoria "Vicki" Ann, Jack was transferred by Lockheed to Atlanta, Georgia. Upon Jack's untimely death in 1966 Betty returned to work as a secretary first for The Lovett School and then for Mercer University. Throughout these years Betty faithfully served her church, The Cathedral of St. Philip, as a Daughter of the King, a women's service ministry.
Both of Betty's daughters married and settled in New York – Florie in Averill Park and Vicki in North Creek. So Betty moved to Glens Falls to be right between them. Her servant's heart led her to volunteer and become involved in her community. That involvement began with her church, The Church of the Messiah and branched into giving time as an office volunteer at High Peaks Hospice. She also served at the Glens Falls Hospital Guild in their Lifeline office as well as at a local church thrift store. On her days "off" she loved to knit preemie caps for the Glen Falls Hospital's newborns and sweaters for her grandchildren. Her hands were always busy blessing others.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Jack William Farnell; her brother, Richard Pattee; and her daughter, Victoria Perkins. Left to cherish her memory are: one daughter, Florence Elisabeth Farnell Bolton; two granddaughters, Amy Pattee Bolton Merhige and Laura Elisabeth Perkins Arseneau; one grandson, Benjamin Pierce Bolton; five great-grandchildren, nephews and many friends.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to: Glens Falls Hospital Guild, 100 Park Street, Glens Falls, NY 12801 or High Peaks Hospice, Warren County Office, 286 Glen Street, Glens Falls, NY 12801.
