Westerlo- Elizabeth T. Ferraino, 93, passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2006 at the St. Peter's Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Glendale, NY she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Elizabeth Schaefer. Educated in NYC Elizabeth went to work in Finance on Wall Street. During WWII she worked as an aviation engineer in the experimental design division. After the war Elizabeth received her Masters Degree in Education from Queens College in NYC. She then went on to work in education for the NYC School System for 25 years until her retirement in 1980. After her retirement Elizabeth and her husband moved to Westerlo where she resided until her death. Elizabeth was a past member of the Kiwanis Club of the Helderbergs and a member of the Threads. She enjoyed cooking, playing the piano, painting, bowling, gardening and crossword puzzles. Elizabeth especially enjoyed her weekly visit for dinner at VinceAnna's, always enjoying the comfort and hospitality she received from the staff. A very warm, caring and compassionate woman, Elizabeth always enjoyed her time spent with friends and family. Elizabeth was an avid supporter of the Arts, following the NYC Ballet and Opera from their years at Lincoln Center and more recently at SPAC. She is predeceased by her brother George Schaefer and her infant daughter Elizabeth Lee Ferraino.
Elizabeth is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years Aurelio R. "Rudy" Ferraino, her son Robert G. Ferraino and his wife Barbara, her granddaughter Nicole Bruno and her husband Lawrence and her grandson Robert M. Ferraino and his wife Donna. She is also survived by her great-granddaughter Michelle Ferraino, her two great-grandsons, Patrick and Michael Bruno and many nieces and nephews.
