Elizabeth "Betty" Flynn, 84, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Samaritan Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Born to the late George and Marjorie (O’Leary) Streever, Betty was a devoted wife to the late Andrew George Flynn. Their love story began when she was just sixteen, and they built a beautiful life together over 65 wonderful years of marriage.
A lifelong communicant of St. Augustine’s Church in Troy, Betty was a woman of deep faith and boundless love. She found her greatest joy in family, treasuring every moment spent with them. She was known for her warmth, quick wit, and the kind of wisdom that made people feel truly heard and understood.
Betty had a gift for making a house feel like a home—her cooking was legendary, and her phone calls were filled with love, laughter, and sage advice. After raising her family, she enjoyed a fulfilling career in retail working for The Boston Store, Macy’s, and later worked at Time Warner Cable.
She will be remembered not only for her kindness, strength, and sassy charm but also for her ability to bring comfort and guidance.
In addition to her parents and beloved husband, Betty was predeceased by her sister, Linda Streever, and brother, George Streever.
She is survived by her children, Deborah (Gary) Sorvari, Mark (Connie) Flynn, Andrew (Kelly) Flynn, and Matthew Flynn. She was the cherished grandmother of Tara Sorvari, Christopher (Carrie) Sorvari, Cassie McKenna (Mark), Kyle Flynn (Lawren Masters), Vivian Flynn, and Jack Flynn (Ripley Newburgh), and the proud great-grandmother of Oscar Flynn. Betty is also survived by her sister, Jayne Bouchey of Jacksonville, FL, along with many nieces, and nephews.
The family would like to thank all those involved in her medical care, especially Rhonda, the Eddy VNA, the Palliative Care team, and the Hospice team. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Danielle, Sharkairh, Desire, Trish, Lantisha, and Keallia, for their compassionate care in Betty’s final years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 24, 2025, at 11 a.m. at St. Augustine’s Church, 25 115th St, Troy, NY 12182. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, 250 Cemetery Rd, Troy, NY 12180. All are welcome to attend and honor Betty’s life.
