Colonie- Elizabeth (Betty) Galvin, 94, of Albany, passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2022, with her loving husband by her side. Betty was born on November 29, 1927 in Glens Falls.
Betty was beloved by all those that knew her. She was a spirited, active woman who enjoyed life. As a young woman she was an avid golfer, ice skater, tennis player and skier. If there was a sport out there, Betty would give it a try. Later in life she became known as Yiayia and her grandchildren became the center of her world. She enjoyed a full life with her husband and friends traveling the east coast, enjoying many great beach vacations. As the years went on, Betty began to suffer from the beginning stages of Alzheimer's. After many years at home under the devoted care of her husband, it became necessary to move her to a place where she could get the additional nursing care that she needed. With much difficulty, the family decided to transition her to the Shaker Place Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. She spent more than ten years at the facility under the most amazing care from the nurses and staff there, and the family would like to thank them from the bottom of their heart for all of the love and care that they bestowed upon Betty. Most of all, her husband Jack would like to thank each of the nurses (you know who you are) for their friendship, laughter and good times that they shared with him as he showed up over the last decade, rarely missing a day.
Betty is survived by her devoted husband of over 40 years, John (Jack) Galvin, her beloved son, Peter (Toni) Ladopoulos, her loving daughters, Michelle (Dan) Seger, Tracy (Nigel) Young, and Kelly (Greg) Ross, her great-niece Jody Pratt who she thought of as another daughter, her niece Donna Craft; and her cherished grandchildren Alexandra, Peter John, and Christopher Ladopoulos; Jordan Ross; Grace Young; and Libby and Katie Seger.
Betty was predeceased by her sisters, Gertrude Ross and Dorothy Dowd; her brothers, Ernie Benson and Leonard Benson and her grandson, Jason Mach.
There will be a family service in the spring at The Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, her final resting place.
In lieu of flowers, consider making a donation in her name to The Alzheimer's Association of your choice.
