Elizabeth May "Betty" (Haverly) Geurtze, 87, passed away Sunday December 21, 2008 at Fairview Commons Hospital in Great Barrington, MA. She was born August 1, 1921 in Gastonia, North Carolina a daughter to the late Edward Hugh and Edith (Burke) Haverly Sr.
Betty graduated from Bethlehem C.S.D. and went to East Strousberg College. She was employed for a number of years at Montgomery Ward, Verstandig's Florist, National Commercial Bank and later retired from Bethlehem C.S.D. She was a member of the Bethlehem BPW.
Betty's hobbies included Bingo, Saratoga Race Track/Casino, garage/estate sales and she belonged to the Women's Seal Stamp Club of Albany for many years. Her pride and joy was her new grandchild Angela Leto.
Betty was the wife of the late Paul Geurtze and was also predeceased by her brother Edward Haverly, Jr. She is survived by her brother Richard (Ellenor) Haverley, Sr. of Delmar and many nieces and nephews.
Betty was loved and cared for by her extended family Michael and Darlene Leto Sr. and their family; Jennifer, Michael Jr. (Carla) and great granddaughter Angela Leto, her dear friend Mary Leto and Nurse Virginia Wilson.
Betty's family would like to thank Dr. Guiliano, Dr. Hulub, Ellis Hospital, Mohawk Ambulance Service, Rotterdam Police and Fairview Commons Nursing Home for all their help and support. A very special thanks to Rev. Richard Haverly, Jr. for his help as well.
The funeral service will be 11:00am Monday at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155 south of Central Ave.) with Rev. Richard Haverley, Jr. presiding.
