Guilderland – Elizabeth "Betsy" Hope Salerno, 70, went home to be with her heavenly father on Monday January 11th 2010. Betsy Salerno was born on December 4th 1939, daughter of Joseph Kelly and Gertrude Dee-Kelly.
Betsy spent the last 40 years of her life as a resident of Guilderland. She was raised and grew up in Troy. She was married to Anthony D. Salerno in June of 1963 and remained his loving wife for 46 years. She was a homemaker who focused on raising her family. Prior to her marriage she had worked for the State of NY. Betsy was known by her friends and family as a warm-hearted person with a strong sense of family. She had a wonderful sense of humor and an intellect that amazed her children and those close to her. Betsy loved word puzzles, reading, and playing card games. Above all else, she loved her lord and savior Jesus Christ. She went out of her way to reach out to children and would never hesitate to give away bibles to make sure they would all have the opportunity to know God's word.
Betsy is pre-deceased by her brother Joseph "Spike" Kelly, and survived by her sister Mary "Mimi" (Harry) Bove, her husband Anthony Salerno, her four children Marbeth (Sean) Carew, Christine (Randall) Harding, Peter Salerno, and Joseph (Shelley) Salerno. She is also survived by twelve grand-children, Anthony (Julie) Carew, Connor Carew, Rachel Carew, Meghan Carew, Randall Harding Jr., Joshua Harding, Brittany Harding, Matthew Harding, Adam Salerno, Emily Salerno, Kelly Salerno, Sydney Salerno and one great grand-child, Michael Carew.
The funeral service for Betsy will be held Saturday January 16th 2010 at First Assembly of God Church at 477 Krumkill Rd in Albany. Relatives and Friends are invited to attend and call at the church on Friday January 15th 2010 from 4-8pm. Interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Contributions can be made to the Hope Memorial Fund which funds "Betsy's Bibles" providing free bibles to children all over the Capital District.
