COLONIE - Elizabeth "Liz" Shutter, 72, passed away on Monday, March 25, 2024 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy.
Liz was born on January 23, 1952 to Mary Ellen (Claughsey) Ferguson Bender and the late Wallace R. Ferguson. She was a nurses assistant at Albany County Nursing Home for over 25 years, before retiring in 2003. She enjoyed many hobbies and activities in her life and she adored her beloved pet Shilo. She also loved being a presence in the "The Musketeers" with Patti and her lifelong friend Phil.
In addition to her mother, Mary, Liz is survived by her children, Joseph Shutter, Matty McCoy, Gerald (Laura) Shutter and Richard (Leigh) Shutter; her uncle, John (Rosalie) Claughsey; her brothers, Wallace R. (Lulu) Ferguson Jr. and William (Robin) Ferguson; and several nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchild. In addition to her father, Charles Bender, Liz was predeceased by her beloved domestic partner of 34 years, Patricia "Patti" Bollock; her aunt, Anna "Tootie" Pariseau; her sister, Jessica Bender; and her brother, Joseph Ferguson.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on April 4, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. at All Saints Church, 16 Homestead St., Albany. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens, Colonie.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the ASPCA or Guiding Eyes For The Blind, in memory of Elizabeth "Liz" Shutter.
