Elizabeth Margaretowens Shannon

NEWPORT, NC - Elizabeth Margaret Owens Shannon, age 96, of Newport, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at her home with her loving family by her side.

Elizabeth was born in Albany, NY on August 14, 1919 to the late William and Margaret Owens. She retired after 35 years of employment with the A&P Tea Company and resided in Newport, NC. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Morehead City, NC.

Elizabeth is survived by her son, Robert Shannon and wife Nancy of Albany, NY, and James Shannon and wife Sharon of Newport, NC. She was also the proud grandmother of eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Elizabeth was preceded in death by her daughter, Carolyn Christy; brother, Robert Owens; sister, Shirley Stover; and sister, Marion Decker.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, NY. Calling hours will precede the service from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 8, 2015. The burial will follow at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Colonie, NY.
