Elizabeth "Jean" Serritella

Colonie- Elizabeth "Jean" Serritella, 91, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 with her three sons by her side. Jean was the daughter of the late Mary F. (Gramann) and William B. Barker, and the mother of the late Mary Teresa Serritella.

Jean was a Registered Nurse who trained at Hudson River State Hospital in Poughkeepsie and the Halloran VA Hospital in Staten Island. She then worked for the Albany Visiting Nurses Association and as a School Nurse Teacher at Vincentian Institute and Arbor Hill Elementary Schools. Jean was most proud of her childhood in Whitehall, NY; being a "Barker Girl"; her three sons; and her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed spending her April vacation in New Smyrna Beach & the Breakers with her extended family, and Tuesdays and Friday evenings out with her sister Natalie. Jean was an avid walker!

For over thirty years, Jean volunteered at the Albany County Nursing Home and St. John's/St Ann's Outreach Center. In 2011 she was presented with the Senior Lifetime Achievement Award by the Capital District Senior Issues Forum for her volunteer efforts.

Jean is survived by her three sons. William (Linda) Serritella , Alfred (Debi) Serritella & Angelo (Peg) Serritella. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her sister, Natalie Greene and her special friends, Rita Milham and Jane Serritella, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Jean is predeceased by her three sisters, Kathleen Taft, Teresa Rose Loos and Mary Frances Galarneau and her life-long friend Mary (Walsh) Sbuttoni.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, December 15, 2017 from 5:00pm- 8:00pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Road, Watervliet, NY 12189. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 10:00am at St. Pius X, 23 Crumitie Rd, Loudonville, NY 12211. Interment will follow Mass at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
