SCHENECTADY - Elizabeth T. Turnbull (Commisso) peacefully entered Heaven on May 31, 2013.
Born and raised in the South End of Albany, New York, she was a graduate of Philip Schuyler High School, mother of eight children, and a homemaker with a lengthy career as a Nurse. Our mom was the ultimate example of sacrifice, kindness, compassion, caring, faith and love any human should have the good fortune to witness. She gave selflessly her exceptional nursing care, time, kindness, faithfulness, friendship, and herself to countless family, friends, neighbors, patients and strangers alike. She suffered all her losses, life's hardships, two bouts of cancer, four years of nursing home placement and all the humilities of her life unceasingly without complaint, while tending to others' needs always above her own. Mild-mannered and meek, always turned the other cheek, she truly "walked the walk"; both figuratively and literally, walked all her life to her family's and patients' needs with a smile on her face. She was "Nurse Elizabeth" and "Ma Turnbull" to many more than her blood. She was devout in faith with a great love of music and movies, of people, her Christ, and all the Saints -- everyone that knew her said she was one. It is why we, her grieving children who will forever miss her earthly presence, take comfort in knowing she now resides in Heaven with her waiting loved ones; her Saints and angels - joining them to watch over us all.
She was a devoted and treasured mother to son, Dominick Turnbull, daughters Beth Springer (Israel), Rita Turnbull, Velma Turnbull (waiting for Mom in Heaven), Kathleen Cohen (Sapir), Joan Veage (Roger), Mary Theresa Gerstenberger, and Lucy Turnbull; her beautiful grandchildren Erin LaPoint, Tess Boniface, Jennifer Belcastro (Nick), Megan Crupi, James Blinstrub, Segal and Golan Cohen, Dominick Viscusi, Shannon Turnbull, great grandchildren, Kobe, Havanah and Giada Boniface, Justin Belcastro, and Hugh Taussig-Lux; devoted brother-in-law, Nicholas Potere; friend and former husband, Peter Turnbull, and many, many loving nieces and nephew and friends.
Elizabeth was predeceased by parents Peter and Mary Theresa Commisso; sister Mary Theresa (Tess) Potere; brothers Dominick, Vincenzo and Francisco Commisso.
