COLONIE, NY – Ellen E. Briggs Soulia, passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2010. She was born on July 16, 1916 in Hobart, NY and was the daughter of the late Raymond & Elizabeth Briggs. She was a resident of Schenectady before moving to Colonie. She was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School. Ellen married her husband, Harold D. Soulia on November 2, 1935 and was married 48 years, until his passing on August 2, 1983. Mrs. Soulia worked for Edie's Diner in Colonie for 32 years. She was a committee woman and an inspector on the election board for many years in the Town of Colonie. Ellen belonged to the Cyrene Temple, Daughters of the Nile, and was Past Queen, Past Supreme Appointee and Past Queen Caravan. She also belonged to Marvia Court, Oriental Shrine of N.A., where she was Past High Priestess, P.H.P. Caravan and a member of Grace Methodist Church. She was currently a member of Lisha Kill Reformed Church for 50 years. Ellen bowled for many years in the Atomic League and the Schenectady-Scotia mixed league. She enjoyed her weekly bingo and her occasional trips to the casinos. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Marion Churchill and Evelyn Koch. Ellen is survived by four children: Patricia E. (Richard) Pangburn of Rockledge, FL, Robert H. (Phyllis) Soulia of Fort Myers, FL, Douglas E. (Barbara) Soulia of Fultonville, NY and Nancy L. (Raymond) Clute of Waterford, NY. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. at Lisha's Kill Reformed Church, Colonie. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park, Colonie. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriner's Children's Hospital, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104 or Ellis Residential & Rehabilitation Center, 1101 Nott St., Schenectady, NY 12308 in memory of Ellen E. Soulia.
