Ellen M. Kotas

Albany- Ellen M. Kotas, 92, passed away on March 26, 2018 at Albany Medical Center after a short illness. The daughter of the late Jack M. and Esther E. (Hill) Welch, she was born on February 17, 1926 in Clarksburg, West Virginia.
Ellen graduated from WVU in Morgantown, WV and worked at General Electric Company in Syracuse and later for Albany County Social Services until her retirement. She also worked part-time for The Barbizon Shop in Albany.
Ellen was an avid lover of Opera and classical music. She sang in many choirs and was also a passionate reader.
She leaves her husband of 55 years, Thomas F. Kotas; her son, William A. (Joyce Amell) Kotas; her brother, Robert (Gail) Welch of Hickory, NC. Ellen is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Irene Welch and Elsie Griffin and two brothers, William Welch and Jack Welch.
Visitation will be from 12 pm to 1 pm on Thursday, March 29 at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A funeral service will be held at 1 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Ellen's name to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Way, Memphis, TN 38105.
