LATHAM – Ellen M. Newport, 78, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on Thursday December 4, 2008 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Cohoes and was the daughter of the late Stanley K. and Sarah Downs Burke. Ellen had worked for the New York State Thruway Authority at it's inception. She later worked for several years with New York State Department of Corrections as a Senior Stenographer, retiring in 1995. Ellen enjoyed frequenting casinos, traveling with her husband, wintering in Myrtle Beach, SC and spending time with her cherished family.
She is the beloved wife of 51 years to Donald B. Newport. Ellen is the devoted mother of Robert (Elizabeth) Newport and Thomas (Donna) Newport. She is the proud grandmother of Jessica Hobson, Jennifer, Rachel and Ryan Newport.
