ALBANY – Ellen O. Springsteen, 80, passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2011, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Opelika, AL, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Carrie Buchanon. Ellen was an Albany resident for most of her life. She served with the New York State National Guard for ten years and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1991. Ellen retired from the New York State Dept. of Civil Service in 1995 after thirty years of service. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and spending time with her loving family. Ellen was the wife of the late Elmer C. Stewart and Ralph B. Springsteen. She is the devoted mother of Rex, Ronald and Reginald Stewart, Elvis "Rick" (Adrienne) Stewart, David (Kim) Springsteen, Regina Springsteen, Ellen (Greg) Springsteen and Sam and Dan Springsteen. Also surviving is a host of cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Ellen was predeceased by six siblings.
Funeral services will be Friday evening at 7::00 p.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (RT. 155-south of Central Ave). Calling hours will be Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont.
