SCHENECTADY – Elmer D. Gordon, Jr., 73, passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at Ellis Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Elmer was born on January 26, 1935 in Cobleskill and was the son of the late Elmer D. and Beulah (Castle) Gordon Sr. He served in the US Army from 1957 to 1959. He worked at General Electric for over 24 years as an electrician for steam generators; prior to that he worked for the Schenectady Bus Company. He enjoyed older cars, playing cards, camping and spending time with his family.
Elmer is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Joyce E. (Walker) Gordon of Schenectady; his devoted children, Melissa J. (Wayne) Hildenbrandt of Schenectady and Elmer D. (Cheryl) Gordon III of Watervliet; his cherished grandchildren, Christopher J. Hildenbrandt and Kayla N. Hildenbrandt both of Schenectady; his brother, Roger (Linda) Gordon Sr. of Gloversville; his five sisters, Eleanor (Charles) Burke of Fultonville, Florence (Robert) Countryman of Sprakers, Janet (Charles) Newkirk of Sprakers, Lois (Frank) Morey of Laverne, TN and Barbara (Joseph) Clancy of Sprakers; his step-grandchildren, Christina, Keith and James Francis; four step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his two daughters, Bonnie and Valerie Joy Gordon.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.). Interment will follow at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Colonie. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
